French Press Coffee Brewing Guide
-
Prepare enough boiled water to begin brewing. For a 34-oz press, you'll need about 700 mL.
-
Grind your coffee coarsely. Add the ground coffee to the plunger. A 12:1 water-to-coffee ratio is recommended. For instance, if you're using 500 mL of water, you’ll need 60 grams of coffee.
-
Gently pour twice the amount of water than tan the amount of coffee grounds. For example, if you have 50 grams of coffee, you’ll want to start with 100 mL of water.
-
Give the grounds a gentle stir and allow the coffee to steep for 1 minute.
-
Add the remaining water. Place the lid and plunger gently on top of the grounds. Don’t plunge just yet. Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.
-
Gently and slowly push the plunger down until the ground coffee is firmly pressed at the bottom of the press.
-
Serve the coffee immediately. Don’t let it sit otherwise it will continue brewing and over-extract.
